The JGDM is located within the Eastern Cape Province, and
borders the Free State Province and the country of Lesotho.
The District municipal area consists of four local municipalities : Gariep LM (Burgersdorp, Steynsburg and Venterstad); Maletswai LM (Aliwal North and Jamestown); Senqu LM (Barkly East, Rhodes, Rossouw, Lady Grey and Sterkspruit), Elundini LM (Mt Fletcher, Maclear and Ugie)

Joe Gqabi Council
The JGDM Council was elected in 2011 for a period of 5 years with Executive Mayor, cllr Z.I. Dumzela and Speaker, cllr B. Salman.
Joe Gqabi secures ORIO Fund
Joe Gqabi District Municipality has signed a grant agreement in December 2012 with ORIO ( the Facility for Infrastructure Development funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Netherland) for funding to the amount of R262 884 110 for the provision of water to 107 villages in the rural areas of Elundini.

Bid JGDM2012/13 004 - Provision of Security Services for Joe Gqabi District as advertised on 24 August 2012 has been withdrawn due to technical reasons. JGDM unreservedly apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
